He's stricken by how slightly familiar the young man looks, but he can't quite put his finger on where he knows him from. He's not sure if he's seen him around Diagon Alley, or if he's perhaps a differently-aged person he knows from the future. When he catches him looking at his scars, Bill reaches up to brush his cheek absentmindedly. ] Nasty accident.
[ Not quite the truth, but he doesn't know who to trust yet. ]

Remus smiles apologetically, Bill's absent movement prompting him to scratch at one of his own facial scars reflexively. There's a spark of humor in his eyes and tone, dimmed only slightly by exhaustion and the frustration of a fruitless job search.] Me too, oddly enough.
[He shakes his head a little, huffing a laugh.] My apologies for staring, that was rude.
no subject
That's alright. I'll admit, you look oddly familiar to me. Like I'm not sure how I know you.
no subject
That's easily solved. I'm Remus Lupin. [He holds out a hand to shake.] I may be able to take a guess at your surname, but I'm afraid I don't recognize you.
no subject
He grins, taking Remus' hand in both of his and shaking it vigorously. ]
Of course, it's you! I should have known. I know you, or I will. Later.
[ He releases his hands, stepping closer and speaking in more hushed tones. Urgency abounds in his voice. ]
I have so many questions. What's going on with the Order? I haven't seen or heard anything since I've been here.
no subject
[Not that he knows them particularly well or anything, but--
The obvious urgency in the older man's tone throws him off as much as his words. He knows enough to follow his lead and speak quietly, though.] I-- Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "the Order"? I can try to answer your questions, I suppose, but--
no subject
Sorry... It's a future thing. Must not be established yet. [ Except it definitely should have. Especially with Riddle as Minister. Someone ought to be working to bring things to rights. ] I didn't mean to confuse you.
I am a Weasley, yes. Arthur and Molly's oldest.

[This seems like a discussion best had in private, not on a public street.]

[ If they're going to talk about the apparently nonexistent Order of the Phoenix, then yes, they should definitely go somewhere more private. ]
I'm off work with no engagements for the evening. We can definitely go somewhere and talk.
no subject
He nods, and considers possible locations.] Where are you staying, Bill?
[They could go to Remus' flat, but knowing his luck, he'd have a random Ministry inspection right then.]
no subject
[ It's not much, but he hasn't had a chance or the inclination to find anything more permanent. ]

[ They make their way back to the Leaky Cauldron, and Bill leads Remus up to room six, unlocking the door and letting them both inside, before relocking it behind them and applying the various requisite spells to make sure they won't be disturbed.
The room is modest, but there's a chair for Remus to sit in. Bill removes his work robes and drapes them over the edge of the bed. ]
Are there many of us "displaced," then, that you've met?
no subject
He'll take that chair, leaving the edge of the bed for Bill, a thoughtful look in his eye as he looks about the room and to the man himself.]
I've heard there's more displaced every day, and I've spoken to a few through m.i.a.v.i. posts, but I've not met anyone I know in person other than yourself.
[He wonders what Bill does, that he's gotten those too-familiar scars, but he won't ask.]
no subject
If you've spoken to some of us, then by now you must have heard that this past -- this version of the past -- it isn't right. Things didn't happen this way, he--
[ He pauses in his pacing, speaking in urgent, hushed tones even though they're alone and won't be overheard. ]
This minister was never supposed to be minister for magic. That's not how history went. [ He's careful not to use Riddle's name, just in case it's being tracked. ] All the problems you have here, the-- the disappearances, the curfew... They all must stem from his rise to power.
no subject
I've heard some things that didn't match up, yes. [He says slowly. It was nothing as enormous as Bill's suggesting, though he had been wondering about what things would be like, if he hadn't been forced to register as soon as he'd graduated Hogwarts. If his status as a werewolf were still a secret.
He frowns, keeping his tone carefully neutral.] Those are very serious allegations.
no subject
[ He moves, now, to sit on the bed facing Remus, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, speaking quietly even though the room isn't going to be spied on. ]
But something's wrong with this time. And the cause of it must lie in the Ministry. I think... I think it's up to those of us who don't belong here to fix it. But we'll need help.
no subject
Bill doesn't strike him as the sort to subscribe to such things, though.]
You don't think that a little presumptuous? That it's up to you?
[The words seem like they should be irritated, but Remus is more curious than anything. Can they not fix their own problems?]
The disappearances have been happening for a long time now- long before the current Minister came into power. They've slowed since the curfew was implemented, but--
[Remus edges, something nervous there. He's not in a good place to speak out against Ministry policy, normally. It only leads to trouble. He's not convinced to start any rebellions just yet, however...]
I'm not convinced the restrictions help as much as is claimed. It certainly doesn't help the muggles that are possible targets. [Like his mother.] There's been some minor outcries, but they never go far.
[He meets Bill's eyes steadily.]
You seem very sure it's the Minister himself behind everything. Why is that?
no subject
He only hopes the other man will believe him. ]
In my timeline, Tom Riddle went by a different name. A name that was so feared, hardly anyone was brave enough to say it out loud. He was... Well, there isn't any way to be delicate about it. He was a dark lord. The worst the world had ever seen. He was responsible for two wars that devastated wizarding Britain. So, so many people died. Good people.
[ He looks at Remus, sadness in his eyes, trying not to think about how he's talking to one of the people who gave their life to stop Voldemort. ]
I refuse to believe that same man can be Minister and not be up to something.
no subject
[If Bill is correct, if there really is something going on... they need to know the answers to those questions right away.] I don't doubt that you're speaking the truth. [Certainly not about his own timeline, anyway.] I need more information, though.
no subject
[ Which takes him to his next point. ]
In my timeline, He Who Must Not Be Named didn't go completely unresisted. There was a secret order, the Order of the Phoenix, who fought against him. I was too young to join during the first War, but when He came back, my wife and I joined. It put a target on our backs, but we couldn't sit back and let him hold the wizarding world unopposed.
[ He stops pacing, walking back over to Remus and looking him dead in the eye. ]
You were a part of that Order, as well.
