While it may seem like a boring job, Regulus Black's position in the Department of Record Keeping is extremely important. He records each and every Muggleborn Witch and Wizard that joins their society so that they're easier to keep track of; their safety is all-important and knowing who and where they are at all times is the best and most efficient way to make sure they're safe. It's a necessary evil, of course. The young official is well-known for his sharp smile and razor wit and the haughty way he holds himself even while registering eleven year old children into the system and assuring confused Muggle parents that it's for their child's safety and that nothing is going to happen to their child while under the care of the Ministry of Magic so long as every regulation is followed.

When he's not working in his office Regulus is out socializing with his coworkers, pulling out all the stops and rising through the ranks in the way that only the oldest and purest of families know how - sneakily, smoothly, and with lots of money changing hands. Still, he's easy to find, a young nineteen and often walking alongside one of the heads of other departments, feigning interest in whatever they want to talk to him about. Feel free to rescue him from this self-imposed hell.

For all the big bad awful Death Eater nonsense behind Regulus Black's demeanor and everything in his life, he's still a teenager barely nudging toward twenty. It means that he's going to spend down time however he pleases, whether it be eating ice cream at Fortescue's or perusing a book shop, many of his hobbies are those of a normal young man. He's not the type to be openly social unless prodded, but he's still willing enough to talk if someone approaches him no matter their blood status - though his attitude will vary depending on what that may be.

Most free days are spent in said book shops, so whether you're going for school texts or for pleasure novels, you're almost bound to run into him. Perhaps literally.

knockturn alley

Regulus is quiet and hard to find in Knockturn Alley but he's there, either in Borgin and Burke's trading in antiquities or elsewhere purchasing potions ingredients of a more sinister nature. It's difficult to tell whether he's meant to be there or not, whether he's trying to run a sting operation for another department, or if this is a personal errand, but whenever he does go, he never leaves empty-handed whether it's with a sack of galleons from selling or new purchases from buying.

It shouldn't matter which, really - and if you're Muggleborn, you probably shouldn't be back here to begin with. It's far too dangerous. He might just have to escort you out. Hell, even if you're a Half-Blood. Point is, it's not safe in general, and if you don't know what you're doing you might get yourself burned, literally or figuratively.

Not all of Regulus' time away from the Ministry is free time. There's the prerequisite Death Eater meetings and planning and everything all of that entails and honestly a lot more rubbish down time in headquarters than he'd like to spend. Like today, which can be nearly any day he's found, he's boredly settled on a sofa with one leg crossed over the other, foot jiggling slightly as he reads the newspaper to see if anything interesting - or inflammatory - has been written. He'll make note of anything important but really it's just a lot of lazy waiting that he doesn't want to be doing when he could be doing real work, having real relaxation time, or doing... literally anything else.

A real Death Eater mission, even. Just a thought.

Draco had considered not going. Why would he? The better part of the Wizarding World knew the part he'd played, his family's crimes - back home, anyway. It was difficult to separate the two, even if everything he's come across so far showed him that he was somehow in the past. Earlier than his own time by far enough he didn't have to worry about any retaliation or repercussions for said actions.

So he goes. Reluctantly. And he's pleased to learn that no one recognizes him, not in the slightest. A year or two ago, he'd have hated that, but fear is a powerful motivator to not be quite so proud. He's walking past a bookstore when he bumps into someone coming out, and the words slip out, whether he wants them to or not.

"Watch where you're going, you bloody idiot."

Draco pales, stiffens and takes a step back.

[At first, Scorpius doesn't have any reason to believe anything is wrong. He fell asleep in his room at the manor, and that was where he woke up, and it seemed for all intents and appearances like any other summer day.

He and Albus had plans to meet in Diagon Alley that day, so he quickly cleaned up and got dressed, darting to his dad's study to pop his head in. He was usually there by this time of day.] Dad?

[...no, not there. The manor's big enough that he can't just shout that he's headed out at the door and be sure he's been heard... and he doesn't want his dad to discover him "missing" and freak out or anything.

He heads for the kitchen next. If all else fails, he can ask a house-elf to deliver the message.]

[Okay. So. He's in the past again. And everything is terribly terribly wrong. In a way that's a lot more difficult to set right than simply... fixing his own and Albus' mistakes in messing with the past.

As though there'd been anything simple about that.

For all his quirkiness and spastic energy, Scorpius was practiced at keeping his horror with this exact sort of situation carefully contained. It helped, being a little older, and having done it before. It also helped that the wrongness wasn't yet so overt and violent as it had been in that timeline.

Probably they were just working up to it, though. Whether he went by the name or not, Tom Riddle was still bloody Voldemort, and there was the matter of the disappearances, and of course the restrictions.

Albus wasn't here, which was abjectly miserable and only made Scorpius want to go home where everything wasn't terrifying and horrible even more, but he went to Fortescue's as they'd planned anyway, pondering what to do over a large bowl of ice cream sundae.

There had to be an Order of the Phoenix... right? They would have been founded by now, maybe they were just... deeply underground. Maybe literally. Should he try to get to the space under the Whomping Willow to check? If he could get to Hogsmeade, he might have a shot at that...

He buried his face in his hands with a sigh, blinking back the tears that suddenly burned at his eyes.] This isn't fair...

[ it's not rare for regulus to be here. in fact, he very often is (ahem), and in mornings it's because he and lucius go to the ministry together. regulus to work, lucius to fuss around and do ... whatever it is he does. it's a good arrangement, and even though his cousin-in-law is older than him they get along well and it allows him to see his favorite cousin on a daily basis.

lucius must always look perfect of course, which means that regulus spends mornings lazily eating breakfast, drinking tea, and reading the prophet while waiting for him to get ready. as soon as he hears footsteps, a low drawl comes from behind the paper. ] It's about time, I'm growing old every morning just waiting for you to get ready.

[ but then he notes something - it's not the sharp staccato of lucius' steps nor is it the click-clack of narcissa. the paper gets brought down with the tell-tale crinkle-rustle of newsprint and a scowling, haughty face that will be deeply recognizable from photographs is going to stare right at scorpius. ] Who the hell are you?

[ the question is a courtesy - if he hadn't already known about the strange things happening around involving time, he would hex first, ask questions later. even if this young man clearly is a malfoy.

Remus smiled tightly and nodded. Well, that's another job lost, thanks to the bloody Ministry's restrictions. "Of course. I understand."

The woman seemed contrite, at least. "You're one of the best employees we have, you certainly work harder than the usual prats we hire... I tried to put this off as long as I could, believe me."

"I know you did. Thank you for that." His expression gentled. It really wasn't her fault, after all. He knew she'd gone to bat for him against the Ministry, tried to claim that, since he always worked in the back and never had any contact with the customers, the sign proclaiming there was a werewolf on staff was unnecessary.

He's not blindsided by this; he knew it was only a matter of time before the Ministry forced her hand.

"Sorry to call you in on your day off just to tell you this. You'll still get your last paycheck, and of course I'll be happy to provide a reference for you." She seems relieved that he's not more upset. It's not easy news to deliver.

He thanks her and they go through the administrative procedure of ending his employment and within the hour, he's out the door, the beginnings of a headache forming.

He's going to have to ask James for rent money again... It doesn't matter that Prongs has money coming out his ears and is all too happy to give it out to his friends with no shaming, it doesn't matter that paying his rent five bloody years in advance wouldn't even put a dent in the Potter account, he just-- hates that he can't do it himself. It's not for a lack of effort.

It's early still, but he needs a bloody drink. The Leaky Couldron won't turn him away at the door, so he heads in that direction.

[Remus doesn't work at the Ministry (or anywhere, currently), but he's there at least once a month to check in with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, as all registered werewolves are required to do. The entire process is slow and irritating, the questions are often far too invasive for his liking, and it takes all he has to maintain a calm, pleasant demeanor throughout the whole thing as he's treated either like an invalid incapable of caring for himself, or like a beast.

But he forces himself to stay composed, because showing his frustration would mean they've won. It'd mean another message from Greyback that, if he would just come and join his own kind, if he would just come to work for the Minister, all this hassle would go away. Isn't it nice, how they've set up a job program just for werewolves? Doesn't that sound so much better than trying to scrape out a living on his own?

Nevermind the Ministry's the one that's made doing that impossible.

With all the waiting and shuffling around from office to office, and how much busier the Ministry is than usual, he's there nearly the entire day. Other than the bit of toast and jam he'd shoved down before Apparating to the Ministry that morning, he hasn't been given a chance to eat at all. He doesn't complain, though his stomach certainly does. By the time he's finally able to leave, his patience is fraying.]

Sometimes Lily has to close the shop down to argue some thing or another in Ministry because things have gone tits up with restrictions. She's not afraid to argue with the Yaxleys until they threaten to shut her own on technicalities, whereupon she'll be temporarily cowed - but that doesn't mean she's not going to do her best arguing until then. She's good at it - sometimes she actually gets them to budge, but not often. More often it's a fruitless endeavor and she ends up storming out of the department angrily.

It's not an uncommon occurrence.

In Diagon Alley there is a small apothecary. Its name is simply Auturgy and it's run by a young redheaded witch by the name of Lily Evans. She's a Muggleborn, as evidenced by the cut off of her shop hours immediately at the curfew. Still, her shop is popular even if her living above the shop doesn't give her the loophole she'd hoped for in the first place. Her work is impeccable and if you'd like to come in and see her, there are plenty of ready-made things in stock and a board behind the counter details potions she's willing to make on-demand that can't be stored long-term. Those willing to pay far higher prices are welcome to special request potions that aren't listed, but there's no guarantee that she'll be willing to make them.

She's open seven days a week and you're welcome to come in to see her, but if you're going to try to stay past curfew she's going to boot you unceremoniously out of the shop. She has no qualms about it, either: she's not going to risk her entire shop getting shut down permanently just for fear of losing one customer.

It had taken Scorpius a little bit to find her, mostly because he'd been expecting her to be under a different name. Apparently in this messed up timeline, Albus' grandparents hadn't gotten married, which meant Harry Potter didn't exist, which meant Albus Potter wouldn't exist. But maybe the Order of the Phoenix still did, and if so, Lily Evans would surely know about it.

And, well... she and James Potter were his only connections to Albus in this time, as tenuous as it was.

He goes well before curfew, ducking into the small apothecary with no idea how to begin this conversation, or what the conversation should even be. He'd been running through it in his head the entire way and everything sounded crazy or stupid or both.

He's seen her before, of course, but only from afar. Even with all the time traveling he's done, coming face to face with people he's only read about in history books, who died long before he was born, is still very jarring. Especially when they're as magically talented and intelligent and phenomenal as Lily Evans. "Uh-- hello."

[ the department of magical law enforcement is overseen by the lestrange family. it's been this way since the riddle administration began. rodolphus lestrange, the beloved elder son of the lestranges, has been running the department for his parents since his graduation from hogwarts over a decade ago.

brilliant, well-respected, and feared, he exacts the same level of discipline his family upholds for one of their own on each and every agent under his jurisdiction. to say the least, it can get rather frightening.

out of all the divisions in the dmle, rodolphus' favourite would be the auror office. it's where he expends most of his time and energy. he doesn't waste it away behind a desk either. in fact, he goes out into the field as much as any of the aurors under his command. he finds a certain... thrill in apprehending dangerous wizards and witches.

something about dark arts practitioners really gets him riled up.

but alas, he is not doing fieldwork today. he isn't even near auror headquarters. instead, he has business with another one of his divisions, the administrative registration department. with the influx of strange new arrivals in the wizarding world, chaos can only describe this particular division.

if you're a newcomer who's been brought in, you might just have the good fortune of coming face-to-face with the lestrange heir himself. if you're a mudblood who has a date with the muggle-born registration commission, it might be best for you to simply steer clear of him in general. ]

KNOCKTURN ALLEY

[ rodolphus has always been exceptional in both his studies and his craft. he picks things up far too quickly and far too easily, so nothing ever seems challenging enough for him. it's why he took the natural turn towards dark arts at a very young age. it presents a moderate level of difficulty and it keeps him intrigued. boredom is a constant affliction in his life, so practicing dark magic and collecting dark artifacts play a necessary role in quelling a particular... part of him.

one could call it a hobby; another could call it an obsession.

but it's why he's here in knockturn alley this evening. his order for a rare item has finally arrived and he has come to personally pick it up at the shop. after all, it's for a very special someone and he can't trust it to be collected and delivered by anyone else.

Slughorn paused to accept a sundae from the proprietor of the ice cream parlour, a smile wrought with good-natured conspiracy shared between the two. "--Where was I? Ah yes -- Professor Dumbledore came down straightaway when he heard I was contemplating retiring. Said it would be a simple shame if I didn't stay and teach all these newcomers that would be flooding into the school come the end of summer, and perhaps a modest pay increase would persuade me to stay?"

Professor Horace Slughorn rarely stirred from his Hogwarts quarters, even over the summer. A great deal of momentum kept him there most days, coupled with the convenience of accepting owl post deliveries in the comfort of his own chambers. Indeed, a table nearby was downright littered with such deliveries in the form of tins of pineapple, boxes of toffee, and one chest of Turkish Delight that looked like it belonged as a N.E.W.T. level Care of Magical Creatures lesson. (He was still working on trying to figure out how to get the Turkish Delight out of the thing. Must make a note to stop by and bother Hagrid, the man probably had some of his wildman tricks to calm the thing.) But with times so different, Slughorn had decided that an appearance would serve him well, to get an impression of just what was going on in the wizarding world for himself.

So the man himself held court in the outside seats of Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, having convened an impromptu meeting of the myth-shrouded Slug Club right here. Open to all members and alumni, and those whose Slughorn's keen eye caught sight of and judged to be of merit. No one could say his instincts were perfect... but time had honed them well.

"And so another year of teaching," he concluded with a theatrical sigh. "Maybe some year I'll give these old bones a rest."

"And how right he is, Professor Slughorn—" The soft, melodic voice drifts from over his shoulder as Slughorn accepts the sundae, where Narcissa Black has appeared looking cool as can be despite the intense heat of the afternoon. Behind her, a sunburnt house-elf sweats profusely as he levitates an antique parasol of white lace over Narcissa's head to protect her fair skin from the sun. "—your retirement would indeed be a great loss to the students of Hogwarts."

She smiles, the expression reserved but seemingly genuine as her eyes trail over the table littered with gifts; some things never change. "I would certainly agree that your talents merit an increase in pay. Why, just look at how your students shower you with tokens of their appreciation."

As though not to be outdone, Narcissa steps forward to the counter, withdrawing a dainty draw-string bag from her fine robes. "Do let me cover the cost of your sundae," she says, producing a few silver sickles and handing them to Fortescue without waiting for an answer. "It's the least I can do for my favorite former professor."

Sirius Black

[Everyone had known about what happened to the elder Black son. Disgraced, the shame of the family, disowned, all that sort of thing. So Sirius is not generally seen around the Ministry, these days, though a good number of his family members work there. He spends his time as he pleases, with enough money from crazy old uncles and adoptive better-than-parents to be mostly free to do what he likes. Sure, he might be looked down on by some, but he's never given any sort of thought to that. Being a Black, even a blood-traitor one, is sometimes enough to intimidate most people.

Today, Sirius is lazing around Diagon Alley. He can be found at various points -- notably Quality Quidditch Supplies, where he's drooling over the latest broomstick -- and the Leaky Cauldron. There, at least, he's hidden in the back, keeping an eye out for familiar faces or friends to pass the time with. He doesn't much like having nothing to do with his time, not when the world's in a state like this, but for now it's a good time to lie low.]

There's too many people trying to make their way places, and Credence keeps flinching away every time one of them brushes past him. Something about him seems off - maybe it's the fact that he's wearing a full suit in the middle of summer and he looks a little bit like he should still be going to Hogwarts? Maybe it's the necklace shaped the like Deathly Hallows symbol he keeps touching absently - whatever the reason, he looks very, very lost and very overwhelmed.]

( fortescue's is a delightful place for an interview. it's always busy, the ice cream is delicious, and some of the fancier options, the ones she's obviously willing to pay graciously for, come with that hint of alcohol to loosen an otherwise unwilling tongue. not that she needs it – rita twists the words of her victims, pardon, interviewees around before they've even been said at all.

did you agree to an interview? maybe you're a time traveller! maybe you mysteriously changed ages overnight? a ministry official trying to do damage control? or a ministry official of the sort that leaves rita once again very dedicated to reminding the population just how much they love their current administration? maybe you're none of those things, doesn't matter, she can work with you. hell, maybe you didn't even agree to this. maybe it's just so crowded that you wound up sharing a table with her, anyway. whichever it is, her quill is hovering attentively. she doesn't show it, but she knows quite well that she has got to make up for her half-blood status where she can – and in her profession, she does so by being better connected, faster, an unregistered animagus, and more vicious than her pureblood colleagues. it's never going to make her head of anything, but she works with what she gets. )

Diagon Alley

[Dora wasn't one to tamper with time turners- she'd heard enough horror stories to keep far away from the lot of them. So that explained nothing of how she wound up a good nine years in the past- and a totally bogus past at that.

The answer to all this confusion is more than obvious to the 16 yr old: ice cream. This place might be completely out of whack, but at least Fortescue's was still around. And they still had decent flavours of ice cream. Luckily she had some pocket money left- her mum wouldn't likely take too well to seeing a 16 yr old version of her 7 year old.

She's found a small table out of the way, but with a killer vantage point, to enjoy her ice cream cone. You know, just in case a familiar face walks through those doors.]

[Dora doesn't make the turn- her hair is short and black and skin a little more pallid than usual- she's drawn her summer cloak closer to her to cover the fact that she's wearing colours, not all black. It may seem suspect for her to linger near the entrance to the alley- but then again the alley itself was suspect. She always wanted to just take a peek- but her mother never allowed her. For good reasons, she supposed. Her mother was a blood traitor and she wasn't very highly looked upon herself. But surely no one would recognize her with her brilliant, fool proof disguise?!

So... why was she so hesitant to actually take the few steps it would take for her to actually see the alley? Best to turn around and hope that no one saw her considering making that turn.]

Summer is a brilliant time to prepare for the upcoming school year. Albus, like most professors, prefers to begin his shopping early to avoid the rush of students as they descend on Diagon Alley in a flurry of new robes and unmarked parchment. He is dressed in his favorite purple robes, meandering down the street as he window shops a bit before stopping into the Leaky Cauldron for an afternoon pint and gab. He is in the mind to purchase a few new books and a new pair of socks, which he happily discusses with those around him. What many may fail to pick up is the way his head turns when news of current events is whispered about.

Knockturn Alley

In his meandering, Albus decides to take a stroll down Knockturn Alley. Even though the street has a sordid reputation, it isn't strange to see the professor here. Albus greets everyone in the same, cordial manner, but it is clear Albus is here for a particular reason. The Leaky Cauldron is a place for idle gossip, but Knockturn is where the real soothsayers lurk. His smile becomes more serious here as he makes his way into the different shops. He isn't searching for socks on this street, but perhaps he may find an interesting book in one of the shops.

Hogwarts - 1980

It was strange to think that sixty years had passed since Albus last stood in the castle and yet it felt as though he had never left. He could scarcely believe the date on the Daily Prophet, wanting to believe it was a poor joke when the abundance of new paintings on the walls insisted that it was real. The devil is in the details, he thought to himself, as he climbed the staircase that led to the Professor quarters. Would his room still be there? Would Fawkes? Albus felt a cold shiver of fear at the thought of Fawkes locked in a room without him for so long. Phoenixes were loyal, but to what end? He hurried down the corridor, uncertain if he was hoping to see Fawkes familiar face or dreading it.

[ Andromeda has never considered becoming a part of the Ministry of Magic, even before her dissociation from her family. Bureaucracy eludes her, and although she's well trained and well equipped to handle care of herself when thrown in a snake's den, she'd rather live her life in relative peace outside of it, with Ted by her side. Besides, she enjoys her work as a mediwizard; taking care of others has always been one of her more distinct traits, being the second eldest in a group of three girls (sisters) and two boys (the cousins).

They've been lucky, of course, she knows that most of all. With all the disappearances of muggleborns that've happened over the years, on top of being the one to gain the affection of the eldest of the pureblooded Black sisters, Ted is near the top of some anonymous person's list. It's why marriage is out of the question for now — Andromeda may have been considered a disgrace, but the Black name still strikes fear in the hearts of men everywhere, and no Black has ever been considered weak. There's protection, however little, that she can provide using a name she no longer wishes to have.

It's also why, of course, she can walk through the halls of the ministry when needed, head held high — a pureblood with a pure name, safe and privileged.

Although, Andromeda's presence in the ministry doesn't often signal a good thing. Andromeda gained reputation in St. Mungo's by being one of the quickest and most successful mediwizards when answering emergency floo-calls, so she tends to be the one that shows up when something happens. Besides, no one wants to go and stay at St. Mungo's. If she can fix your fuck up without having to magically strap you to a hospital bed, then all the better for everyone. ]

DIAGON ALLEY.

[ Andromeda keeps a quiet life so she doesn't often show herself in public spaces so as not to accidentally encounter people that she doesn't necessarily wish to make small talk with. But when it becomes necessary, she travels to the Alley and grabs all the essentials. Most likely, she'll be in the apothecary, restocking her supplies, gringotts, or the bookstore.

On occasion, she might stop by Fortescue's, especially during a hot summer day and you'll see her sitting outside, reading a book. But blink twice, and she'll be gone, so if you want to talk to her, you better be quick about it. ]

[ there's something just a little otherworldly about the petite, wild-looking young man currently standing outside the owl emporium. he looks a bit rustic and old-fashioned even by wizard standards, as if he might have just tumbled out of the forest a few minutes ago, and he seems uncomfortable and maybe just a little bit awed. things certainly have changed since his time, haven't they? (though at least the school's still around, so small favors, nevermind what he'd heard about slytherin.) ]

Seems unnatural, [ he says after a moment, maybe to the person nearest him, but more likely to the screech owl in the cage he's currently examining. ] Keeping them in these tiny little things. [ with that thought in mind, he simply unhooks the cage altogether, coaxing the owl out onto his hand with a gentle click of his tongue. uh, is he planning to buy it, or..? ]

[ lily is buying potions ingredients when she notices it. she nods her thanks to the merchant she's bought from before tucking her purchases away, pickpocket-quick movements making sure nothing is out where someone can take it.

funnily enough, that same cart is her next stop. hopping off a curb onto the thin cobbled street, lily strides across the way and passes the men by on her way to look over the wares.

though they're moving in on this seemingly defenseless young man lily touches one man on the shoulder as she passes and the other two on the arm - ostensibly brushing by them, making her way to where she's going. but there's a crackle of magic and something strange happens.

while most wizards and witches around have to use their wands for magic, lily's is right through her fingers and it's as though all three of the men's knees go out from under them jelly-like and unstable. they're (perhaps rightly) peeved, but lily just smiles and stops at the cart. ]

[He might not play on a regular basis anymore, at least not seriously since Hogwarts even if he did toy with the idea of playing professionally, went to try outs for Puddlemore United once and everything. James still stops by Quality Quidditch Supplies at least once a week. Most of the time it's with no explicit reason besides browsing and yet he still almost always leaves with something. A new pair of gloves. A jersey. He really doesn't need another broom but he can still appreciate the newest model available. He likes the owner of the shop. The shop's not in any danger of bankruptcy but he's noticed the latest sign in the window and it gives him a sick feeling in his gut.

In fact, James makes it a point to stop into several shops with those annoying signs when he's in Diagon Alley and he may or may not own a set of naughty panties for his non existent girlfriend now. Maybe he needs to read the name of the shop before he enters next time. Without fail, he stops by the apothecary owned and run by a certain redhead and it's true he could brew most of the potions he asks for himself but it's Lily and well. Pathetic isn't his real middle name but it could be and they are friends too.

Feel free to stop him on the street for a quick chat. Or bump into him in one of the shops. Or stand in line at Gringotts with him and curse goblins under your breath. Or admire his manly and dashing figure from a distance.]

[ As being a wizard displaced from his own time was apparently not unheard of these days, Bill didn't have too hard a time securing a job with Gringotts again, after he'd managed to convince the goblins he was already-- or will be, in another decade or so-- employed there. He's still not sure what to make of this alternate past, so he's grateful that the goblins have decided not to send him abroad just yet, keeping him at Gringotts to push paperwork around rather than go out in the field breaking curses. It's menial labor, but it gives Bill a chance to establish himself in this time, and scope out what sort of Order presence might exist.

He can be found in or around Gringotts, or conducting business at other shops along Diagon Alley. Perhaps you catch him standing outside the business that will one day become Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, looking up at the distinctly not purple awning with a vaguely fond expression on his face. ]

[It was strange how it all happened- and to be perfectly candid? Victoire still wasn't entirely sure what was going on. It was all a little too much- she was overwhelmed with the mere thought that she was so far back in time.

That this was not the 'back in time' that she had learned about.

Something strange was happening, though perhaps that went without saying. The young witch wandered Diagon Alley- many of the same shops were there... Some had yet to be. She can be found lingering outside the empty shop front that her uncle will own, brow furrowed and lips pressed in a frown. She lingers by the shop every time she passes, as though it'll suddenly be there.

[ nobby leach has been working for the ministry since he graduated from hogwarts in '52. he has been climbing the ranks with impressive speed. a rising star, so to speak. he's quick-witted, sharp and passionate with a boisterous and vibrant personality that captivates and draws people to him. despite how unpopular he is with some (mainly pure-bloods), he is favoured among the majority of his coworkers, including the head of the department he works for.

it's why it comes as a bit of an unpleasant shock when he is blocked from entering his division and instead escorted to the administrative registration department. apparently, people from the future aren't too accepting of those from the past here. can't blame them, of course. but where his bewilderment lies isn't in the stonewalling itself; rather, it's in the contemptuous manner he is received and the division he is led to — the muggle-born registration commission. ]

Dominique had always been a bit too bold for her own good. Ever the Gryffindor-yes, she was most certainly a Weasley despite the way her features, even with the blood diluted this strongly, screamed 'Veela'-the combination of expected danger down Knockturn Alley and the cool breeze wafting in from the path had called her down it.

No amount of bravery could have brought her to interrupt what she was soon witness to, however. A duel, in the open no less. Not behavior she'd have expected from her own time, even within Knockturn Alley. Drawing her wand in case there was need to defend herself or others, the teen watched with wide eyes, wondering if somebody a bit more qualified than a sixth-year student might take notice and care enough to stop before things got out of hand.

[ If Dean's in a foul mood, that's because he's done this before. Not this, exactly, nothing so civil and organized, but the meaning behind it is the same. It's not a big leap from registries and curfews to rounding up muggleborns for cash rewards. He doesn't want to go on the run again, not when he doesn't know anyone in this time who could help him, so he's forced to play along for now. But that doesn't mean he has to like it.

He sighs again, long and weary, and tells the Ministry clerk, ] I don't know whether I'm half or not. My dad may have been a wizard, but he didn't stick around looking enough to tell my mum if he was.
