Yesterday, just woke up here like I'd always been. [He doesn't really want to say, 'oh, you know, just got done abandoning my best mate to the hardest thing he's ever done, what's up with you?' so he shuffles his weight a little, shakes his head.]
Got - got separated from Harry and Hermione. What happened, after the wedding? [He doesn't say that he listened to Dad's radio every night, every day, every waking second that wasn't preoccupied with something else, praying not to hear any of their names.]

He motions for Ron to follow as he begins to walk back towards the Leaky Cauldron. This is a conversation best had in private. ]
It's alright, everyone's alright-- not right away, but we manage. I'm from a bit further on. March, '99. Fleur and I, we're... Well, you're going to be an uncle soon. If I can get back to the right time.

(The space in his chest is quickly filled by guilt, because he really did throw something terrible in Harry's face for nothing. They were all fine anyway.)
Falling into step with Bill, Ron keeps his hands in his pockets, though his thumb brushes his wand where' it's stuffed down his waistband. He probably looks about as paranoid as he feels, but it feels impossible to be anything but.]
Blimey, Bill.
[An uncle. He's meant to be an uncle! And apparently they all survive another year, thank God.]
She's not here, then? No, obviously she's not - how are we supposed to get back? Does anyone know, yet?
no subject
No one seems to have any idea. We're stuck here, in a past that shouldn't be the way it is.
[ He looks pointedly at a poster in a shop window reminding passersby of the curfew. In a low voice, he adds, ] There's no resistance in place; the Order doesn't exist here because nobody thinks there's anything wrong.
no subject
When he catches on where Bill's looking, though, something small and tense snaps inside him.]
They don't think a bloody curfew is wrong? That putting the trace on adults is wrong?
no subject
Some do. You'll notice they're the once who've got the trace in the first place.
[ He pauses as they enter the Leaky Cauldron and gestures for Ron to follow him upstairs. It's not until they've reached room 6 and Bill's closed and locked the door behind them, and laid down a number of spells to prevent anyone from listening in or interrupting them, that he speaks again. ]
I've spoken with Lily Evans-- she hasn't married James Potter in this timeline, they haven't had Harry-- and Remus Lupin. Lily seemed eager to rebel. Remus... I'm still gauging his feelings, but it can't be easy for him, here.

He bites his tongue until they're in Bill's room, and there he paces, sharp steps and quick turns, until his brother's finished protecting the space. He very nearly explodes, until Bill lays down that bomb.]
Harry - Harry hasn't even been born yet?
[It's a weird thought, and then it's an absolutely terrifying one. What does that, what does any of this, mean for the world they've come from? And what does it mean for the people here, if Harry's meant to be the one to stop Riddle? Can he even be stopped?
Ron stops pacing and abruptly sits down on the edge of Bill's bed.]
no subject
No, he hasn't. Now, just what the implications of that are going to be, I can't say. Maybe there's no prophecy in this time. Maybe it's up to the rest of us, who've been displaced, to fix things.
[ He frowns. The outlook is certainly bleak. But they've fought Voldemort before, they can do it again. ]
no subject
[Ron shakes his head, hunches forward to lean on his knees.] The rest of us, like there was a load to pick from to begin with. Haven't seen anyone else from the Order kicking about, have you?
no subject
What I wouldn't give for Mad Eye or Kingsley about now. They'd know what to do, for sure.
no subject
But they'll have been born, won't they? Maybe we can find them here. Explain things.
no subject
[ Mad Eye might. He's always ready to suspect the worst. Surely that can't have changed in this timeline. ]
