diagon alley
So he goes. Reluctantly. And he's pleased to learn that no one recognizes him, not in the slightest. A year or two ago, he'd have hated that, but fear is a powerful motivator to not be quite so proud. He's walking past a bookstore when he bumps into someone coming out, and the words slip out, whether he wants them to or not.
"Watch where you're going, you bloody idiot."
Draco pales, stiffens and takes a step back.

This silence is deeply irritated and Regulus doesn't move, doesn't speak, only lifts his head to look at the person that's bumped into him. "Beg pardon?" There's something dangerous about it, cold and sharp and not quite vicious. Something wrong. He's smiling too in that way that's unsettling and there's a pin on his lapel that identifies him as a Ministry worker, but more importantly...
Regulus Black should be readily recognizable. Photographs, family trees... He's there, over and over, the golden child of that branch of the Black family, befallen a tragic death at such a young age. But here he is, smiling through grit teeth as he takes in the look of him and then he laughs.
"You're a bloody Malfoy."
no subject
"Must be a clever one to figure that out."
While instinct tells him that this man is dangerous, and familiar, too familiar, Draco is going to play the stranger card as long as he can. Then he can try to blame the mistaken identity route for his earlier rudeness to keep himself from any negative consequences. He'd wanted to lay low for a while here but that seems less and less like a possibility.
"Who're you?" A pause and then he digs an even deeper hole. "Dark hair, bushy eyebrows. It's common enough that I can't guess who you are by appearance alone."

Regulus is rather short but he has a lot of presence when he draws up to his full height, which he is currently. His lips twist into a smirk. "Perhaps you're a distant Malfoy, all the ones I know are brighter than this."
Sharp. Tight.
"My name is Regulus Black. Grant me yours."
no subject
"Of course not. You're just dead when I come from."
There. That's a good excuse. Good turn about, Draco.
"Draco Malfoy."
He doesn't quite manage to straighten himself up, to look proud, not here. He's still figuring out the pecking order and doesn't know exactly where a Malfoy might land.

His eyes flick over Draco's face as he speaks, thoughtful. "Have you been staying in the manor? I haven't seen you when I'm by there. Mind, I haven't had as much time to be by as usual."
There seems to have been some relaxing thing in him now - why, it's unclear, but Malfoy is clearly still a name with some clout. "There are no set places for the displaced to stay, so you're lucky to have the manor." He grins, and it's sharp. "I'm sure Lucius must find it interesting dealing with a grown son."
Lucius, who is only 26 here.
