IT'S BLOODY HOT IN HERE
(no, really. it's seriously hot.)
it's the summer holidays! a perfect time to travel, relax, spend time with loved ones and bask in the sun. the wizarding world is lively with energy at this time of year. everyone seems to want to make the most of their break before september comes around the corner and life returns to its normal, mundane pace. it has been especially exciting with the sporadic and strange appearances of old and new faces. some claim to be from a different world while others claim to be from a different time. then, there are the ones who have simply found themselves waking up to be remarkably younger or older. just remember to keep to your curfews, half-bloods and muggle-borns! those eerie disappearances are still happening in an increasingly alarming rate...

MINISTRY OF MAGIC

for the ones who don't have the good fortune of going on holiday, you won't have to worry about having nothing to do, especially if you're part of the ministry of magic! with all the anomalies happening, you're going to have your hands full registering, documenting, interviewing and/or helping with a multitude of busywork relating to the newcomers. or maybe your job doesn't have anything to do with that. maybe you're on the opposite end and you've been brought in. or maybe you're just a tourist and you want to see if you can catch a glimpse of the minister for magic. whatever your reason is, welcome and stay out of people's way!

DIAGON ALLEY

everyone loves to go shopping and what better place to do it than diagon alley? you'll find mills of people looking at all the different items on sale or on display in store windows. maybe you're here to purchase materials for the upcoming school year or you're out on a date with your significant other. or maybe you actually own or work at one of the many shops here. whatever your reason is, you better be ready for the crowd and the heat.

KNOCKTURN ALLEY

oh no! what are you doing here? turn back right now! knockturn alley is no place for you to be. well, at least it isn't if you aren't a dark arts practitioner or you're not part of some nefarious secret group. just turn around and go back to diagon alley. it's much nicer there, friendlier and safer. have you not heard about all the disappearances going on? you're only asking for trouble stepping into a place like this, even if it's remarkably cool here.

M.I.A.V.I.

not in the mood to go out? or maybe you're stuck in the waiting room at st. mungo's trying to figure out why you're suddenly 10 years older and you need a distraction. disregarding the reason, it's sure a good thing you've conveniently brought along your m.i.a.v.i. so feel free to browse the public network, create your own post, or private message someone!

OTHER

not interested in any of the options above? feel free to make up your own! the wizarding world is huge, so get creative with it. the setting is the summer of 1980. have fun testing out and shaping your characters, mingle with others, and start getting those crs down!

She doesn't believe him. But she has to! He struggles to think of something he can say, to prove that he's telling the truth. "I'm completely sure! I-- In the time I come from, the Minister for Magic is a muggleborn woman, like you. Minister Granger, the brightest witch of her generation." Sound familiar? "She's very highly respected, she's made all sorts of changes for the benefit of muggleborns and house elves and centaurs and goblins and werewolves and-- I-- I've admired her since I was a child! I solved a riddle she created once, I'm still proud of myself for that because it was very difficult and I was under a lot of pressure, and I'm-- getting off-track now, sorry."

At the very least, the rambling is about as genuine as genuine gets. "Anyway, the point of me saying all that is-- with things like they are here, I don't know if this world will ever get there. In fact, I'm fairly certain it won't even come close! But-- if we can change it back to how it was before, it will get there. I know it's a lot to ask, to trust me, but I don't have any other way to prove that what I'm saying is true."

Lily listens to him speak. She's very quiet, processing - and there's a moment when he compares muggleborns to sentient beings that her expression darkens considerably before he continues and she realizes that he's not bringing her down, he's bringing them up to the level of humans. Strange for a pureblood. Very strange. James and Sirius, for all their bluster and enthusiasm, still fall into those problem areas (and others) often. She also looks bewildered, and almost overwhelmed, as he finishes up speaking.

No, scratch that. Very overwhelmed.

Still, it looks like she believes him. "He's not Minister for Magic but he's something else, isn't he? There's no way someone like him just doesn't exist."

After a moment, Scorpius realizes how that might have come across, and it had sounded much better in his own head but she seemed to get his point. Things aren't perfect, in his time, but they're so, so much better than anything he can see this timeline turning out to be.

She believes him, though, and that's worthy of a sigh of relief. After a moment, he nods, in answer to her question. "'Something else' is a good phrase for it, yes... but he was something people could fight. I-- I looked for you because, in the 1980 that I know of, you were one of the people fighting him."

"You mean literally, don't you?" Lily observes him for a long moment, brows furrowed. "Right now a war's on in your timeline. Me, a shop owner with the bloody trace on, fighting a war."

There's the briefest pause. "There's no trace on muggleborns and half-bloods, is there? Because he's not Minister."

There are wheels turning in her head. Important ones. There's something sharp and almost dangerous in her gaze for a moment before she shoves it back down. "So he's crafted something monstrous of himself and there's a war on. By your time things are sorted, but they're not for this time. How long does it take?"

Well, he knew she was the cleverest witch of her age. Of course she's figured him out. He lets the wheels turn, and-- he doesn't know how to answer the next question she doesn't answer for herself.

"The war ends October 31st, 1981..." Not quite the answer to her question, really, but stay with him. "Most people were convinced he'd been killed, for over a decade. But he-- came back, in June of 1995. And there was a second war, that ended in May, 1998. That's when it truly ended."

That's not getting into Delphini but-- well. Yeah. It's already complicated, and Lily Evans is clever enough to know wars don't end on a clean break.

Lily's quiet for a very long time. Then she waves a hand toward the door - the sign flips to closed, the door locks, and the shades pull down on the windows. "I don't want to risk someone coming in while we're talking," she explains, of her sudden caution.

"He faked his death, or--you know what, it doesn't matter. He wouldn't wait so long if he had a means of returning sooner. So almost twenty years from now before he's finally gone." Better than him never being gone, she thinks. "But he is gone."

Sighing, Lily chews on her lip a moment before she speaks again. "I met a young man recently. It turns out he's my son. From... From what I can only assume is the timeline you're from. The way he looked at me at first, you'd think he'd seen a ghost."

Looking at Scorpius, she speaks very softly. "I don't see him through to the end, do I?"

He nods, at her closing up the shop. It's smart. "He's gone, completely." He confirms.

Scorpius can't quite control his reaction at the news that she's met her son, because that means that Harry Potter is here, in this time, and that's-- that has to be good, right? If anyone stands a chance at figuring this out, it's Harry freaking Potter. His mind buzzes at how to find him and what to say for a moment. She'd called him a young man, but how young? He-- the train of thought abruptly derails, at the question.

He'd meant not to tell anyone any details he knew about their deaths. It just wasn't on, with time travel. Even if time couldn't get anymore broken than it already was, it would just be a cruel thing to do.

She already knows, though, and he doesn't nod, but he doesn't deny it either. "I'm sorry." He says instead, and he is, because it's not fair, to tell her about that future and then for her to know she won't ever get to see it, no matter what they do.

"That's all I can ask."

It's all she wants. For him to be gone and for their world to rebuild without him. To be something better than what it is now.

The rest of the conversation is sobering though and her breath shakes once when he says I'm sorry. It takes her a moment but she smiles at him sadly and shakes her head, reaching out to pat the back of his hand. "Don't worry yourself about it. You said it's a war. In war, things happen. Sacrifices have to be made. Sometimes... Sometimes, people die." It's difficult to say about yourself though and she swallows, shaking her head again. "It needs doing. We'll have to find out how to right things."

Just like that. Even though she's going to die once things are fixed. "We just... We just won't tell James or Sirius or Remus about that part. They'd jump right in if it were any of them, but they'd try to come up with all sorts of plans if it were me." A beat. "I never know about Peter. I don't think he likes me very much sometimes."

ANYWAY.

"We'll do what we have to in order to right things. Don't worry."

He can immediately see why she was sorted into Gryffindor, and how she could have made someone like Severus Snape fall so entirely for her. She reminds him, again, of Albus, and not just because of her eyes.

She keeps talking, about the men that everyone knows of as The Marauders in Scorpius' time, and Scorpius just won't mention that none of them survive both wars either, and oh-- should he say something about Peter Pettigrew?

I don't think he likes me very much sometimes.

Maybe he should say something about Peter Pettigrew. Everything's all weird, but-- but he should say something, right? Or would that only make the likelihood of a betrayal in this timeline even greater, because he'd have implanted distrust?

Time travel conundrums give him a bloody headache sometimes.

He draws up a smile of his own, trying to look far more confident than he feels. "If we can figure out when and how this timeline diverged from the one I'm from, as well as find a way back to correct that, then it'll be as though all this never happened." He speaks with the surety of someone who's done something like that before. Funny, that. "But that's easier said than done. Until then, whatever Riddle's longterm plans are, we need to put a stop to them."
