IT'S BLOODY HOT IN HERE (no, really. it's seriously hot.)
it's the summer holidays! a perfect time to travel, relax, spend time with loved ones and bask in the sun. the wizarding world is lively with energy at this time of year. everyone seems to want to make the most of their break before september comes around the corner and life returns to its normal, mundane pace. it has been especially exciting with the sporadic and strange appearances of old and new faces. some claim to be from a different world while others claim to be from a different time. then, there are the ones who have simply found themselves waking up to be remarkably younger or older. just remember to keep to your curfews, half-bloods and muggle-borns! those eerie disappearances are still happening in an increasingly alarming rate...
MINISTRY OF MAGIC
for the ones who don't have the good fortune of going on holiday, you won't have to worry about having nothing to do, especially if you're part of the ministry of magic! with all the anomalies happening, you're going to have your hands full registering, documenting, interviewing and/or helping with a multitude of busywork relating to the newcomers. or maybe your job doesn't have anything to do with that. maybe you're on the opposite end and you've been brought in. or maybe you're just a tourist and you want to see if you can catch a glimpse of the minister for magic. whatever your reason is, welcome and stay out of people's way!
DIAGON ALLEY
everyone loves to go shopping and what better place to do it than diagon alley? you'll find mills of people looking at all the different items on sale or on display in store windows. maybe you're here to purchase materials for the upcoming school year or you're out on a date with your significant other. or maybe you actually own or work at one of the many shops here. whatever your reason is, you better be ready for the crowd and the heat.
KNOCKTURN ALLEY
oh no! what are you doing here? turn back right now! knockturn alley is no place for you to be. well, at least it isn't if you aren't a dark arts practitioner or you're not part of some nefarious secret group. just turn around and go back to diagon alley. it's much nicer there, friendlier and safer. have you not heard about all the disappearances going on? you're only asking for trouble stepping into a place like this, even if it's remarkably cool here.
M.I.A.V.I.
not in the mood to go out? or maybe you're stuck in the waiting room at st. mungo's trying to figure out why you're suddenly 10 years older and you need a distraction. disregarding the reason, it's sure a good thing you've conveniently brought along your m.i.a.v.i. so feel free to browse the public network, create your own post, or private message someone!
OTHER
not interested in any of the options above? feel free to make up your own! the wizarding world is huge, so get creative with it. the setting is the summer of 1980. have fun testing out and shaping your characters, mingle with others, and start getting those crs down!
[ Dean ignores the bit where Lily talks to the dog because it's a dog it's not important. ]
Yeah, that obviously hasn't happened yet... [ Damnit, Dean, stop spoiling the future. ] He teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts our third year. Best teacher we ever had.
[--Hey now, this is interesting. He wants to join in on the conversation, so -- the dog's wandering out of the room, heading upstairs for a moment. A few minutes later, there's --definitely not a dog returning, but a young man who's stretching and giving Lily a lazy, slightly mischievous grin.]
Fancy meeting me in my own shop? [ lily rolls her eyes good-naturedly, still working on that same potion as before without so much missing a beat. ] Did that Hangover potion take? You don't look as near-death as you did this morning. I'm sure Padfoot stealing the couch was a rude awakening.
[ lily's used to covering for her friends. easy peasy. now, for the introductions: ] And this would be one Sirius, one of my best friends. He had a little too much firewhiskey last night and had to sleep it off. [ a beat and she finally does pause in her work. ] Sirius, this is Dean. He's going to be helping me 'round the shop.
[ Dean glances up again at another newcomer coming in, not even having noticed the dog leaving. The bloke looks vaguely familiar, but in that way that everyone in the past looks vaguely familiar when you're not sure if you know them in the future. It's not til Lily introduces him as her friend Sirius that Remus puts it together.
He puts down the quill, eyes going wide. He looks back and forth from Sirius to Lily. ]
Sirius Black? [ Didn't he escape from Azkaban? Didn't he betray Harry's parents??? ]
Edited (fuck no V did the killing) 2017-08-04 19:58 (UTC)
Sure did, thanks, Lils. You're the best at them. [--Okay, well, that's an interesting reaction. It's not often he gets recognized right off as a Black family member, certainly not these days, after everything that went down with all that. It piques his curiosity, though, and he offers Dean a slight wave.]
Sirius Black, yeah, though that lot's not gonna call me part of the family.
Good. Come here. [ as soon as he's close enough lily is going to grip him by the chin and inspect his face, turning it this way and that, then tug him down close enough to kiss his cheek before letting him go. ] You look fine to me.
[ going back to what she's doing, she nods although she looks over at dean with a lofted eyebrow. ] You know of him in the future? [ uhhhh. ]
[ Dean's just shell shocked to watch Lily Evans, probably soon to be Lily Potter, kiss the man who'll rat her out to the Death Eaters on the cheek. He's forgotten all about the labeling he was in the middle of. ]
I reckon everybody does.
[ Should he say something?? How much is knowledge of the future going to change things? He didn't know they were friends! ]
Don't I always, Lils? [Smirking, with a cheeky wink at Lily, before its back to Dean.]
What, why, do I suddenly play for Puddlemere United and win the world cup or something? [There's that bark of a laugh. He hasnt't played quidditch seriously since Hogwarts.]
[ LILY ROLLS HER EYES DRAMATICALLY. ] Don't let James hear you, he'll be utterly betrayed by your flirtatious nature.
[ then it's back to dean as well, though her look is more grave because she knows about the war. in fact, she mouths no war to him while sirius isn't looking.
... so she knows about the war definitely for sure. ]
[ Dean looks at Lily as she mouths no war and his mind races. Does Voldemort killing Harry's parents count as part of the war? Can he even mention Harry at all? How does he back out of this now? Lily obviously knows something, but she can't know everything with how friendly she's still being to Sirius. ]
Oh, you know. You're just... causing trouble. In the future. I probably shouldn't talk about it.
Yeah, well; he should be used to it by now. [And back to Dean again, all interest:] Of course I am, it's what I do best. But it's rarely trouble enough to be known by someone I've never met before. Unless it was at Hogwarts.
That doesn't make him any less dramatic about it. [ lily relaxes imperceptibly then before ruffling sirius' hair and settling, going back to carefully chopping some aconite. ] Who knows what everyone's got up to so far ahead? We really shouldn't ask. Knowing the future isn't good.
[ a vaguely nervous flick of her eyes toward dean. there's no sign she's worried about sirius, though. ]
[ Dean returns Lily's look and takes up the quill again, trying for nonchalance as he goes back to labeling, though his eyes keep darting towards Sirius as though waiting for him to make a move. ]
Yeah, that was it. You're a legend at Hogwarts. That's all.
[He leans into that ruffling a little, settling in to lean on the counter next to Lily as she chops. He doesn't know this guy, maybe he's just naturally jumpy.]
Hmm. Alright, then. [He sounds satisfied enough, but he totally doesn't believe that, Dean. Sorry buddy.]
[ aconite done, lily moves on to crushing some dried doxy eggs with the side of another knife, then grinding them down with a mortar and pestle. she clicks her tongue. ] A legend for being insufferable and breaking the rules constantly. Let me tell you Dean, the entire group gave me trouble from day one.
[ with a little wave of the pestle toward sirius. ] But more importantly, tell me about yourself. What's your house? Did you play Quidditch? I don't need time-breaking details, just the little interesting things.
[ Relieved for the offer of a subject change, Dean leaps on the opportunity, smiling a little more genuinely while still trying to keep an eye on Sirius. ]
I was in Gryffindor. I played chaser, but not on the starting line. I filled in when one of the others couldn't play.
Brilliant, I played chaser myself. [Please, Dean, he's not about to up and murder anyone. Except maybe some sentient mold.] Haven't done much since Hogwarts, though, but it's always nice to look at brooms.
