it's the summer holidays! a perfect time to travel, relax, spend time with loved ones and bask in the sun. the wizarding world is lively with energy at this time of year. everyone seems to want to make the most of their break before september comes around the corner and life returns to its normal, mundane pace. it has been especially exciting with the sporadic and strange appearances of old and new faces. some claim to be from a different world while others claim to be from a different time. then, there are the ones who have simply found themselves waking up to be remarkably younger or older. just remember to keep to your curfews, half-bloods and muggle-borns! those eerie disappearances are still happening in an increasingly alarming rate... MINISTRY OF MAGIC for the ones who don't have the good fortune of going on holiday, you won't have to worry about having nothing to do, especially if you're part of the ministry of magic! with all the anomalies happening, you're going to have your hands full registering, documenting, interviewing and/or helping with a multitude of busywork relating to the newcomers. or maybe your job doesn't have anything to do with that. maybe you're on the opposite end and you've been brought in. or maybe you're just a tourist and you want to see if you can catch a glimpse of the minister for magic. whatever your reason is, welcome and stay out of people's way! KNOCKTURN ALLEY oh no! what are you doing here? turn back right now! knockturn alley is no place for you to be. well, at least it isn't if you aren't a dark arts practitioner or you're not part of some nefarious secret group. just turn around and go back to diagon alley. it's much nicer there, friendlier and safer. have you not heard about all the disappearances going on? you're only asking for trouble stepping into a place like this, even if it's remarkably cool here. [ regulus black looks tired. this isn't to say he doesn't always look tired, because he does. he also almost always looks bored, but right now he seems at least somewhat interested. he leans forward at his desk, eyebrows lofted. ]

Let me put it this way. We know you're a wizard of some kind, and you're not a Pure-blood. If you can't provide documentation proving you're a half-blood, you're going to end up with the same safety restrictions on you as a Muggle-born-- [ there's a pause as he tries to think of the right word: ] They call them No-Majs in America, don't they? People without magic.

[ he sighs. ] Mr. Barebone, I need to know if one of your parents was a witch or a wizard.

[gasleaks]

I - I already told you, sir. I'm not. I'm not a witch. I can't - I don't know magic! Earlier -

[When he got a little lot upset and left a five foot area of wreckage around him. You know, the sort of thing that totally happens every day.]

[fixating]

[ softer. it's probably for the best that credence ended up with regulus - he's the gentlest of the officials in this section. ]

[gasleaks]

[Well, what she actually said was she was wicked and unnatural but Credence wasn't stupid. He knew what she meant.]

[ never again the burning times regulus pauses, quill hovering over the form before him. slowly, his hand moves so that he can check the half-blood box. ]

You've been mistreated, by this Muggle woman? [ a beat. ] Normally I only deal with muggle-borns and not half-bloods but I'll finish your case because you're already here. Is she why you can't control your magic? Not your mother, the leader of your... Church. The Muggle woman.

[gasleaks]

No, she - [Credence swallows. Lying is a sin, but speaking ill of your parents is too and for all she never loved him, Mary Lou still raised him.] - did the best she could, under the circumstances. I never knew my mother.

[fixating]

Did she? [ he doesn't sound like he believes it. still: ] We can't leave you alone, you understand. You'll have to have Ministry-appointed assistance to help you with your magic until you can have it under control.

[gasleaks]

I. I'm not sure I understand, sir? [Two months ago he thought all of Mary Lou's teachings were a fairytale. Just a story to scare children. To bring people into the church.] Are you saying - am I to learn magic?

[For the first time in the entire conversation, Credence actually looks up and meets Regulus' eyes. There's something wild in them, but then again that might just be the shock in his expression.]
